The super-secret U.S. National Security Agency on Saturday said its computer systems suffered a "serious" problem affecting their ability to process intelligence data for three days this past week.
The NSA, which eavesdrops on conversations overseas to monitor possible security threats to the United States, in a statement said the problem had been resolved and it was confident "that no significant intelligence information has been lost."

OSAKA, Japan -- Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. has developed a 15-mW blue diode-based laser for use in digital video discs that could hold 15 GB per side, compared with the current 2.6 GB per side.
The Matsushita laser is based on a wavelength-tunable distributed Bragg reflector semiconductor laser from SDL Inc. of San Jose, Calif. In the experimental version, SDL's laser sends 850-nm light through a lens, which directs it through a second-harmonic-generation waveguide to produce the blue light.
